COURSE STRUCTURE
The 6th grade Language Arts curriculum is divided into modules and each module is composed of 2-3 individual units addressing a particular theme and aspect of the content area. We will cover fiction, poetry, non fiction and many aspects of writing. During each module study, students will take quizzes, a major assessment and complete a project. In addition, smaller grades will be integrated to assess comprehension of the topics read/discussed.
Module 1: Reading Closely and Writing to Learn
Module 2: Working with Evidence (Drama)
Module 3: Understanding Perspectives
Module 4: Reading for Research and Writing an Argument
READING MATERIAL
This year we will be reading a variety of genres. The first novel study will begin in September with The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. We have used copies of all reading materials on hand at school. However, you are welcome to purchase a personal copy for your child if you like. The reading list below features some of the texts we will study. Additional texts will be added throughout the year to supplement student comprehension.
